On Peace

Choose kindness… and suddenly you are diverting another conflict.

Yesterday, Annapolis set the stage for a day of peace talks. Country leaders came together to “try” to find some sort of resolution for their conflict. It is a big step down a very long road of centuries of differences. There is no overnight solution, but it IS a step in an optimistic direction.

And what are WE doing, this very moment, to promote peace? I am not even talking about global peace, but about keeping peace in our lives. Are we keeping peaceful thoughts or are we wishing our sandwich were a gun so we can shoot the server who took so long bringing it to our table? Of course, we have all experienced rage and anger, but how can we consciously, from a grassroots level, facilitate a peaceful world if we are enmeshed in violent video games and movies or tuned-in to robotic talking heads reporting on daily violent events from our own backyard to the other side of the world? Conflict is prevalent. It is humanity’s shadow-side manifest. And world peace is a beautiful concept, but it starts at home. It is true: as long as we inhabit this earth, there will always be a penchant for the “dark side”. Are we strong enough to honor this by allowing it to show us the way toward our own lightness of being? Or do we allow ourselves to get swept away in the flow of it’s current? I don’t know, and time will certainly tell, but I do believe we have a choice. So, in the meantime, try asking yourself “Would I rather be right… or kind?” It’s a small step, but it’s a step in an optimistic direction.

Sat Nam and Peace.

I don't watch violent films, even if they are good stories. If they are GREAT stories, maybe, maybe, but more often than not, I turn it off and let others do what they will. It takes a lot to leave the room, say this is not for me, take a small stand for the psyche that, when open and giving, can't take the world full force. But that's my first step. It leads to many others...

Thank you Lady Guru for your kind and gentle reminder. Perfect food for thought this time of year when we all get a little crazed by the hectic pace of the season.

I would much rather be "kind than right", however I know I am guilty of the latter on occasion.

Your post reminds me of one of my favorite songs by Xavier Rudd called "Better People", the lyrics echo your sentiments.........below is a phrase....check it out :-)

When our world it keeps spinning round and round it goes
Human nature keeps spreading its disease
And our children keep growing up with what they know
From what they teach and what they see
And it’s only a question of the time we have
And the lives that our children need
Cause they can only keep growing up with what they know
And what we teach, and what they see

Like,
Giving food to the hungry,
Hope to the needy,
Giving life to a baby,
Giving care for free,
'Cause there is freedom around us,
We have everything we need,
And I will care for you,
'Cause you care for me.
And we all have opinions,
Some of them get through,
But there’s better people,
With more good to do.

Good to do
Oooo good to do
